Game time! We have 36 hours to have fun, learn and make magic happen. Here’s everything you need to ensure a smooth hack.

Arrival time: 10am prompt

We’re keen to get you in, comfortable and started as fast as possible. It’s first come, first served on workspace so please arrive on time to bag a good spot – especially if you’re a team and need a big spot.

10am – 11am is set aside for tea/coffee, icebreakers and a quick primer on open data by Ben Nickolls from mySociety (who will also be one of our judges on Sunday). We’ll also be running a matching board for those looking for the right team or idea and our data curators will be circulating to hear your ideas and help like minds meet.

Hacking officially begins at 11am on Saturday morning. (See full timetable)

Bring £1

Attendees need passes for getting in and out of The Guild during the hack. The Guild need a £1 deposit for these so please bring a coin.

Wifi

Connect to Bath Digi Fest – password: BDFatTheGuild14

Screens

The Guild do have some screens dotted about but there won’t be enough for everybody. First come, first served!

Twitter

We’re @BathHacked and we’ll use the #Hacked21 hashtag throughout the event. Post freely, especially your visuals, wireframes and your friend dribbling on a keyboard at 3am.

Conversely don’t post problems like “I can’t work the coffee machine” (talking to us will be faster).

Food & Refreshments

Tea and coffee are freely available at all times, and we’re laying on lunch on both Saturday and Sunday. If you have any special dietary requirements please let us know in advance.

Drinks are on us from Saturday teatime.

Sleeping

Some of you have already planned to work through the night. If you’re staying but need to nap, feel free to bring a sleeping bag. The lights will stay on so ear plugs and eye masks are also a good idea. Onesies are optional.

Alternatively proper beds are available at Bath Backpackers or St. Christopher’s Inn hostels nearby.

Big data

We have ace connectivity from Gradwell but if you’re planning to use a 5.2Gb dataset, show the love by downloading it before you arrive. We’re guessing everybody will be downloading early on so please help us avoid destroying the Internet all at once.

It’ll probably be just fine but being a good citizen is appreciated.

Safe storage

We have a lockable space accessible only to Guild staff if you need to store anything during the hack.

Hacking ends Sunday, 4.45pm

…then we gear up for presentations, judging and prizes. The event should be wrapped up by 7pm.

This is a joint council and community event: B&NES are paying for the food and venue and your prize fund is heroically provided by our main sponsors Bath Digital Festival, Socrata, Github, develop.me and Bath Girl Geeks. Thank you!

Have fun!

It’s a hack. Half the joy of hacking is what you learn and the people you meet. Coming up for air now and again is okay.
